“And I’d choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, I’d find you and I’d choose you.” – The Chaos of Stars
It is not everyday a girl gets an opportunity to photograph a wedding in Dubai, let alone a South African / Pakistani / British wedding. So naturally when the opportunity arose, I was delighted to photograph Nick and Natasha’s wedding at the Desert Palm Per Aquum resort.
Having lived in the Middle East before, I was nervous about the excruciating heat, which can even set in as early as March. However, we were all surprised by the rather uncharacteristic wet weather to the point that everyone was nervous the wedding would be a wash out, especially considering it poured the previous day!
Nick and Natasha both live in Dubai and met by chance at a busy restaurant where they landed up sitting at the same table because the restaurant was so full. Tash was enjoying her evening with her friend when she started noticing this guy staring at her. ”Every time I caught him staring, he would look away slightly embarrassed”. Nick saw an opportunity to chat to Tash when her friend nipped off, but the conversation was slightly awkward and he returned to his friends. Eventually, he found another opportunity to speak to Tash, but this time he shoved a note in her face and ran out the door. It left Tash wondering if he was “just odd or sweet, but odd”. Tash decided to message Nick a few weeks later and he invited her to a party. She told him she was not looking for a boyfriend, but he somehow still convinced her to come to the party. She took a friend, who left promptly and “he plied me with as much wine as he could while still failing at conversation…his tactics obviously worked”.
Nick and Tash decided they would love to incorporate both their cultures into the wedding and decided on a fusion wedding. Whist the ceremony was of a more western variety, Tash had sourced all the outfits, shoes and some of the décor from Pakistan. We were very excited to see her wedding dress, however, a day before the wedding, Tash tried it on and the tailor had completely ruined it. It was a mad rush as we all teamed together to try find her a new one, which on a Friday in Dubai is not an easy thing to do, especially when you have a Henna party in the early evening and a rehearsal in the early afternoon. Nevertheless, all the disasters were averted and the wedding proceeded without a hitch
It was a fun and beautiful wedding with these two gorgeous souls and I wish them nothing but the best for the future together.
